The **Markova/Nikolaevitch Project**, founded by vocalist **Desislava Markova** and German-Ukrainian guitarist **Heffa Nikolaevitch**, began as a duo in 2025 and expanded into a quartet in 2026 with the outstanding musicians **Alexander Ivanov** on drums and **Boyan Manolov** on electric bass.
As an international project situated between **Bulgaria and Germany, New York and Amsterdam**, the music brings together a variety of cultural and musical influences. The musicians’ international lives and professional experiences are reflected in a multilayered sound, where different jazz traditions meet contemporary sonic aesthetics.
A particularly important connecting element in their creative work is their **Eastern European identity**, which intertwines with the diverse influences of their international environment. In this way, a musical space emerges where **Eastern European roots meet jazz, improvisation, and contemporary musical aesthetics**.
